Electrophysiologic Effects of Isoproterenol and Beta Blocking Agents in Awake Dogs

چکیده

• The effects of changes in sympathetic activity on electrophysiologic properties of the heart are not clearly defined. In a previous report Wallace and Sarnoff demonstrated that stimulation of cardiac branches of the stellate ganglion enhanced conduction through the A-V node, but had no effect on conduction in Purkinje tissue or the sequence of ventricular activation. Their study was performed on anesthetized dogs in which cardiac sympathetic activity might have been excessive; since it concerned only the effects of augmenting sympathetic discharge, it did not include observations over the full range of sympathetic influence.

Cardioversion and digitalis. IV. Effect of beta adrenergic blockade.

Experiments were performed in anesthetized dogs to study some effects of propranolol, dextro-propranolol and ICI50,172 on digitalis-induced arrhythmias and digitalis-induced sensitization to electrical shock. When given in beta-blocking doses, propranolol did not abbreviate ouabain-induced ventricular tachycardia (VT) or decrease ouabain-induced sensitization to electrical shock. In larger dose...

Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic receptor blocking activities of 1-(7-indenyloxy)-3-isopropyl-aminopropane-2-ol hydrochloride (YB-2) and its optical isomers.

The cardiovascular beta-adrenergic receptor blocking activities of YB-2 and its optical isomers were investigated in isolated guinea pig atria and anesthetized dogs, and compared with that of propranolol. In isolated guinea pig atria, the positive inotropic and chronotropic responses to isoproterenol were competitively antago nized by these agents, and the order of beta-adrenergic blockade was ...

Beta 2-adrenergic receptors contribute to catecholamine-stimulated shortening of action potential duration in dog atrial muscle.

beta 1- and beta 2-adrenergic receptors coexist in atria of humans and a variety of other species. The significance of these receptors and the quantitative extent to which beta 2-adrenergic receptors contribute to the electrophysiologic effects of catecholamines acting at beta-adrenergic receptors have not been determined. In the present study, the beta 1-selective antagonist ICI 89,406 and the...

Potentiation of cardiac electrophysiologic effects of verapamil after autonomic blockade or cardiac transplantation.

Cardiac electrophysiologic effects of verapamil in vivo are the result of both direct and indirect actions on the heart (the latter due to augmentation of sympathetic neural tone, diminution of parasympathetic neural tone, and increased circulating catecholamines). In this study we assessed the interaction of verapamil's direct and indirect actions on electrophysiologic properties of the heart ...

Cardiac electrophysiologic interactions of bepridil, a new calcium antagonist, with enflurane, halothane, and isoflurane.

Bepridil is an investigational calcium antagonist that also has fast sodium channel blocking and antidysrhythmic properties. In the present study, the potential interactions of bepridil with volatile anesthetics on cardiac electrophysiologic parameters were evaluated in open-chest dogs. Twenty-four dogs anesthetized with enflurane (n=6), halothane (n=6), isoflurane (n=6), or chloralose (n=6) re...
